Barbie is the Cobber Challenge's first yellow Kelpie. Bred from Barkel Peters Poison and a station-bred Kelpie, Bailey, Barbie has been with Luke since she was a pup. Working over flat terrain in the summer and wetlands in the winter, Barbie is a brave dog who has plenty of run in the paddock. Her favourite job is hoovering up dinner. Luke says that when they're hanging out she often looks like she's lost the plot, but the minute Barbie sees stock, the job becomes her number one priority. Luke says Barbie is one of the happiest dogs he's seen and she always wants to please.

I'm a station hand on AJ&PA McBride Konetta station in South Australia's south-east. Running roughly 65,000 Merinos, 10,000 prime lambs and some breeder cattle, the station keeps my Kelpie, Barbie, and me in constant work. I'm a firm believer in the mantra "work smart, not hard" so I have included working dogs as a key part of my job for several years. Barbie is a little trooper. Occasionally we have differences in opinion but at the end of the day we always kiss and make up and get the job done. Some of the previous Cobber Challenge competitors have been friends of mine so I'm secretly keen to see whether Barbie and I can top their scores.
